Bar Vin, based on Old Christchurch Road in Bournemouth is a bar that attracts older punters, when compared to its nearby rivals Litten Tree and Bar Fruit. It is a wide and spacious bar, with a lot of seating, and a long bar that stretches across the back of the venue.

On the left is a lower seating area with numerous tables, including some with curious massive holes in the middle of them – possibly for champagne buckets. The place had quite a few people in for a very wet and drizzly Thursday night, and during the evening, we were entertained by a one-man band over the other side – playing out the hits of Coldplay and Stereophonics on his guitar and keyboard.

Although I didn’t buy my drink in here, drinks prices seemed reasonable, and very much on a par with other Bournemouth pubs. You’d think that because the bar (which is still over 25’s so I’m told) is trying to reach an older market, it may slap on the pennies on its drinks prices, but this was not the case. Also, the bar didn’t have an air of being an “older persons place”, like other bars in Bournemouth seem to manage.

There were a few TV’s mounted on the wall around Bar Vin, and the decor was alright, but I get the feeling something really special could be made of this place, it just requires a bit of investment. Whether this will ever come, I don’t know.

Anyway, it was an establishment where all of us had a good laugh, we managed to hear each other, easily found a seat, and generally had a good time. Good standard of pub, although in terms of the venue itself, I’m giving it a six, only because I feel it has much more to offer…
