Change Credit/Debit Card Name in Magento

I came across a little issue the other day, whereby we were setting up a payment module for one of our sites, and we had the card names Visa, Delta, Mastercard, and Maestro already pre-written into the system.

We then put the module live, and on the following day we realised we had a load of Abandoned Carts in the system – and we then started to realise that people who had Visa Debit cards, were (sensibly) selecting “Visa” rather than “Delta”.

What we didn’t realise was that Visa Credit Cards came under the “Visa” label, whereas both Delt and Visa Debit cards were infact Delta. Similarly, Switch card users were somewhat confused, because they were not completely aware that Switch was now part of Maestro – therefore they did not know how to complete their payments.

This error, although small, played a major part in decreasing ourn conversion rate – therefore we wanted to change the names of the cards. It took a while to track it down, however they are edittable in:

/app/code/core/Mage/Payment/etc/config.xml

Simply change the card names, do a Cache Refresh in Magento, and the changes are made. We now have the card titles, Visa Credit, Visa Debit/Delta, Mastercard, and Switch/Maestro – this leaves no room for uncertainty, and certainly no reason for the user to back out of that all important transaction!

    Hi

I changed Switch/Maestro to Maestro in my /app/code/core/Mage/Payment/etc/config.xml, refreshed the cache (and also deleted contents of var/cache and var/session) but no matter what I do the Switch/Maestro is still shown under Payments Methods in both backend admin and also on the frontend checkout.

I am running magento 1.6.2. Do you have any ideas?

    Thanks

    Hi Sam

I have a related issue. I am running magento 1.6.2. I want to change the backend and frontend Switch/Maestro label to just Maestro. I have a merchant account with Evalon who do accept Maestro payments but they do not accept Switch payments.

I have edited my /app/code/core/Mage/Payment/etc/config.xml and changed Switch/Maestro to just Maestro, I then refreshed the cache but Switch/Maestro is till shown in both the backend and frontend.

Any help with this issue would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Ian
