Well, you can either design your own theme as we did with Fire Safety Equipment, or you can get a third-party to design you a theme using websites such as Scriptlance or Rentacoder - but now you can also surf and browse and buy ready-made Magento themes.
I’m talking from experience here when I say that designing a theme for Magento is extremely difficult. It is pretty much unlike any E-Commerce platform that has been around before. It took us a while to get our site going, however we have come across a good web-site this week called ECommerce Extensions.
This site has only been around a short while, and there are new themes being added all the time. This site differs from many other theme sites (which I have blogged about), as the designers have grabbed Magento and really created some pretty decent themes using some excellent customisation. All too many theme sites merely take the Modern or Classic theme and just apply some new graphics, but these boys have done very well in creating good looking Magento themes which seem to function really well.
