Moon in the Square, Bournemouth

Another Wetherspoons pub located in the heart of Bournemouth. Previously a favourite of mine due to the cheap prices, the Moon still manages to be completely and utterly rammed on any given Friday or Saturday – and this is mainly due to the vast space and the incredibly cheap drinks prices.

This building boasts a huge downstairs and an upstairs to match (including smoking area), plus even the outside has a few tables and chairs in the summer too. The bars are long and are located on the South side of the building, however, given the expanse, there are seldom enough staff on board to ensure a quick delivery of your drinks.

Despite a recent refit, the place is tatty, seats are falling apart, and a number of recently mounted Plasma TV’s here and there will never hide that. The loo still has racism daubed on the wall to this day (downstairs loo, last urinal) – and generally, I don’t find it a comfortable experience anymore.

You’re probably like me, the first thing you do when you sit in a Wetherspoons is to find a seat, move all the drinks and tomato ketchup sachets on to another table, and then get a wadge of napkins to soak up the random drinks that have been spilled from the previous occupants. Then you spend the rest of your hour in the pub realising how fucking sticky the wood table is.

This place was once glorious, but not any more I’m afraid. We had one drink here, relived some Spoons and Alan Partridge comedy moments to take our mind of the rotting corpse of a pub that we were sitting in, and then we left. Sorry Moon, you’re just not the one for me anymore…
